MSc Proprietary Trading

This brand new and innovative programme is a partnership between the University of Hertfordshire and leading City institution, Futex. It aims to develop your practical trading-floor expertise as well as provide you with an in-depth academic understanding.

Course structure

Prior to starting the MSc programme you will undertake Futex’s intensive 12-week Trading Floor Training Programme. This incorporates a combination of formal teaching and assessment, advice, simulated trading and reflection.

It includes daily seminars on a wide range of essential subjects including:

  • Cash and Derivative Markets
  • Macroeconomics
  • Technical Analysis
  • Trading Psychology
  • How to trade the Market Depth
  • Price Action, Volume and Order Flow
  • Money Management

MSc Proprietary Trading course structure

After successfully completing the first stage you will progress to the University of Hertfordshire’s MSc Proprietary Trading programme which is delivered in Teaching Blocks 1 and 2.

  • Markets, Institutions and Policy are covered in Teaching Block 1
  • The Global Economy in Context is covered in Teaching Block 2

Both teaching blocks focus on the precise needs of traders, and are structured to provide a unique and exciting opportunity for the integration of academic study and practice. You will also work with the tutors to identify the research area of your dissertation and start gathering data.

Dissertation

The final part of your course will be dedicated to dissertation completion. During this period you will have access to Futex's trading floor, tutors and University of Hertfordshire lecturers.

There are two course intakes beginning 1 October 2012 and 14 January 2013; you may apply for either start date.

Entry requirements...

We require a good honours degree from a UK university, or its equivalent, from a recognised overseas university.

We will also accept a postgraduate qualification from a UK university or its equivalent from a recognised overseas university.

If your qualification is from an overseas university, evidence of English language proficiency with a required score of 6.5 or better on the British Council's IELTS test, or an equivalent score on a test recognised by the University of Hertfordshire, will be required. This will be waived if you have successfully completed an undergraduate degree at a university in the UK, or another country acceptable to the University of Hertfordshire, where study was in English and you were based in that university’s home country during study.
