Minor Illness - Autonomous Practice
Who should attend this course?
This Minor illness - autonomous practice course is for qualified health professionals working within emergency and/ or primary care settings providing care to patients with minor illnesses.
You must have access to an appropriate environment and supervision in practice for a minimum of 50 hours over the duration of the course, in order to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills.
Two years experience within the emergency or primary care setting is required.
Normally ‘Assessment – Systematic Approaches’, or a similar course, is a compulsory pre/co-requisite for those wishing to undertake this course.
Course content
This course aims to develop your professional competence in managing minor illnesses using an evidence-based approach.
The course explores the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for a range of key minor illnesses.
It addresses key factors underpinning delivery of quality care, including relevant legal, ethical, professional and management issues.

Assessment
There are 3 elements to the course assessment:
- Written assignment demonstrating critical appraisal of current knowledge relating to the management of patients with minor illnesses
- Completion of patient assessment and management histories undertaken during supervised practice
- Practical examination to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills in patients presenting with minor illness.
