Course content

This Introduction to image interpretation of the musculoskeletal system course is designed to enhance the knowledge of anatomy including common normal variants and of a range of traumatic and pathological processes, which affect the musculoskeletal system.

It takes an overview of the appendicular and axial skeleton to include plain radiographic imaging of the upper and lower limb and spine.

Each body part takes an overview of the traumatic and pathological processes that affect the bones and joints of the area.

Emphasis is on image appearances, both of normal images and the changes brought about by trauma and pathology.

The Introduction to image interpretation of the musculoskeletal system course also reviews the radiographic techniques used to obtain the skeletal images will be reviewed.

At the end of the Introduction to image interpretation of the musculoskeletal system course you will be able to:

  • Identify the plain radiographic techniques used to demonstrate radiographic appearances of the skeleton.
  • Demonstrate understanding of knowledge of the normal anatomical and radiographic appearances of the skeleton.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the signs and symptoms and patient presentation for a range of pathologies of the skeleton.
  • Evaluate radiographic images of the normal appearances of bones, joints and associated structures and a wide range of trauma and pathological processes related to the skeleton.
