Intermediate/Refresher Course in Statistics

Who is it for?
Created with psychologists, behavioural, health and social researchers in mind, this is a course aimed at those who wish to improve their competence and confidence in analysing data from surveys and experiments. You are encouraged to bring your own data for discussion/analysis.
What prior knowledge is assumed?
It is assumed that delegates on this course will have knowledge of probability, the Normal distribution and hypothesis testing. Those whose experience of these topics is some time in the past should find sufficient reminders given to enable them to participate fully. Delegates who have been on our Essential Data Analysis course or both of our Comparing Groups and Relationships in Data courses should have appropriate prior knowledge.
What does the course cover?
The topics covered in the course are:
- SPSS
- revision of hypothesis testing
- analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
- non-parametric alternatives to ANOVA
- simple & multiple regression, focussing on building a model
- sample size and power
- detecting patterns and outliers in data

Course fees
Course fee: £600 including teas/coffees, and lunch
Discounts are available for those attending more than one course (such as the preceding Essential Data Analysis or follow-on Higher Course in Statistics), and research students. Those on limited incomes should contact the course organisers to discuss their situation.
