Who should attend this course?

Applications are welcomed from FY1 doctors, nurses and all registered healthcare professionals including nursing students. Candidates from the Police Service, Fire Service and the Prison Service would also be considered

Course content

Lectures

  • Causes and prevention of cardio-respiratory arrest
  • The ALS algorithm

Practical Stations

  • The ABCDE approach
  • Initial resuscitation and defibrillation
  • Airway (with optional LMA)
  • Optional targeted training
  • Cardiac Arrest Simulation

Demonstration

There is one CAS demonstration. Emphasis is placed on managing patients until the arrival of the cardiac arrest team and on participating as members of that team.

Assessment

The Immediate Life Support – Resuscitation Council UK course is run over one day and consists of lectures and practical stations. The manual is forwarded two weeks before the start of the course and the candidate is advised to study this thoroughly. Assessment on the course is continuous in nature and copies of the assessment forms should be forwarded to the candidate with their manual
