Who should attend the course?
This Fundamentals and philosophies of statutory supervision of midwives 1 course is for registered Midwives who have been qualified for at least 3 years and nominated by their peers.
In order to complete this course you must also study in semester B in the same academic year the course titled: Leading and advancing the practice of supervision of midwives.
Course content
The aim of this course is to help you analyse the role, responsibilities and duties of the Supervisor of Midwives within the context of the statutory framework for the Supervision of Midwives.
In this course you will study the legal requirements that relate to protection of the public, in which Supervisors of Midwives can and need to work in order to affect and respond to the contemporary political, social and maternity services agenda.
You will cover the following topics:
- the fundamental basis for the statutory and legislative framework for the Supervision of Midwives
- a critical evaluation of the supervisory models and frameworks in order to compare and contrast these against work place models.
- the role, functions, values and place of statutory Supervision of Midwives
The course combines a blend of learning and teaching methods and includes regular meetings with a mentor supervisor of midwives in practice.
