Other financial support

To help you financially while you are at university, you can apply for grants and loans.
Undergraduate UK and EU students at our partner colleges receive a consortium college award.
Grants
Up to £2,906 – If you are a new full-time student from the UK, you can apply for a maintenance grant of up to £2,906. You do not have to repay the grant.
The amount you are entitled to will depend on your household income.
If your household income is:
- £25,000 or under – you are likely to get a full grant.
- more than £50,020 – you will not receive a grant.
Money is paid directly to you at the start of each term in three instalments, the first after registration.
Loans
Student loans
UK and EU students can apply for student loans to cover the cost of tuition fees. These are paid directly to the University of Hertfordshire.
You do not have to make any repayments until you are earning over £15,000 a year (current figures).
Maintenance loans
If you are a full-time UK undergraduate student, you can also get help to support your living costs. The amount you can borrow depends on your circumstances.
You can borrow:
- up to £4,950 – if you are not living with your parents
- up to £3,838 – if you are still living with your parents.
You do not have to make any repayments until you are earning over £15,000 a year (current figures).
Apply through Student Finance England well ahead of the start of your course, if you think you might need a maintenance loan.
Disabled students
UK students
If you are a UK student, we strongly recommend that you look into your eligibility to apply for the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). This allowance could assist you in meeting extra costs or expenses you have while you are studying that arise because of your disability.
