ELQ funding

Are you thinking of studying for an equivalent or lower level qualification (ELQ)?
For the 2010/11 session, ELQ students joining the University of Hertfordshire to study full-time on an undergraduate or postgraduate programme, the University will charge an annual tuition fee of £8,500.
Equivalent or lower level qualification
Government funding
In 2008 the Government announced it would no longer provide funding to support universities teaching students with higher education qualifications that are equivalent to, or lower than, the qualification they already hold.
In many cases students applying to study at a university for a course that is an ELQ will no longer be eligible for funding for fees and living costs.
All students should check with their own Local Authority to find out about eligibility for support.
Exceptions
Students applying to courses leading to qualifications in the following areas are exempt from this withdrawal of Government funding:
- Foundation Degrees
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
- Initial Teacher Training (ITT)
- Health related subjects, for example:
- Dietetics
- Nursing and midwifery
- Paramedic sciences
- Physiotherapy
- Radiography
- Social work
Students in receipt of the Disabled Students Allowance are also exempt.
