Consortium college awards

£1,500 – awarded to new students starting their degree in 2010.*
* The consortium college award is available to all new UK and EU full-time undergraduate students studying at our collaborative partner colleges:
- Hertford Regional College
- North Hertfordshire College
- Oaklands College
- West Herts College
- Barnet College – for Extended Degree engineering
The college award in non means-tested and non repayable so you don’t have to pay it back, even when you start earning.
The money is provided to help you with course related study needs.
Remember, you must be in regular attendance in order to qualify for payment.
You can apply for other loans in addition to the college award. However, as a College student you cannot apply for a University of Hertfordshire bursary.

Payment
The money is paid to you by your college. Payments will be made in two instalments. You will receive the first instalment of £750 in January and the second £750 in April.
To ensure that you receive your funds in a timely fashion it is very important that you read the following information, taking action as appropriate.
Do I need to apply?
No. There is no need to apply. It will automatically be awarded by your college.
Completing your application
When you complete your application for your Local Authority/Student Loans Company, remember to state that your:
- Institution = the University of Hertfordshire
- Campus = your college eg West Herts College
Enrolling
You must ensure that you are formally enrolled at the University of Hertfordshire as well as your college.
Attendance
In the first term your tutors will monitor your attendance on a regular basis and your overall attendance will be discussed with you in mid-November.
If your attendance is a cause for concern before that date you should consider with your personal tutor whether the course you are on is the right one for you because:
- you will be in debt to the Student Loan Company from 1st December if you have opted to take out a tuition fee loan.
- tuition fee payments will be non-refundable after 1st December if you have paid your own tuition fees.
Good attendance during the first semester will release your first payment. Good attendance during the second semester will release your second payment.
