End of Life care

Who should attend this course?

The End of life course is intended for UK healthcare professionals who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of end of life care. It has been specifically designed for individuals who work or plan to work within the field of palliative care or who wish to improve the care of the dying in non specialist areas of care whether in acute hospitals or in the community or residential care.

Course content

The course’s aim is to:

  • Recognise the holistic needs of the client and their family when end of life care needs to be determined for a patient with a life limiting illness within their area of practice
  • Review local and national policies, guidelines and directives that underpin and impact on the treatment and delivery of end of life care

Typically the course content will include consideration of what end of life care means for the person who is dying and those that are closest to them both in terms of management of symptoms and psychological, spiritual and emotional support.

It examines issues associated with advanced care planning, quality of life and the national policies and frameworks that support the effective delivery of end of life care.

Extensive use will be made of group sessions during which active participation will be expected. You will be given guidance and opportunity to engage in academic and professional communication both as part of the learning and assessment processes.
