Enabling Practice Learning and Assessment

Who should attend this course?

The Enabling Practice Learning and Assessment course is for all those working to promote workplace learning and have responsibility for assessing and mentoring work place staff or students on professional placements.

Course Content

Students will develop knowledge and practical skills of those of a Practice Educator through staff mentoring and work- based learning. It provides the minimum requirements for practice educating all social work degree students. The Enabling Practice Learning and Assessment course aims to develop an understanding of supporting, developing and assessment of workplace learning. Taught elements included: The assessment procedure use of supervision supporting non-achieving candidates theories of adult learning.

How does this course map the NHS KSF?

This module can be taken as a stand alone module or as part of the MSc Social Interventions and meets the learning outcomes for the GSCC PQ Social Work Higher Specialist and Advanced Awards

Assessment

Successful portfolio competition to include:

  • A peer assessed presentation
  • 700-900 word summary of the presentation
  • Direct observation of practice
  • 3000 word assignment, to include a 500-700 word reflection on the assessment/mentoring process.

Entry requirements...

Post-qualifying experience is required; normally three years. You are also required to be in current employment within an appropriate area of practice and be able to assess or mentor a student/work colleague. N.B. only registered social works can Assess/Practice Educate final placement SW students.

Credit level for this course: 30 / 7
