Developing and managing people within healthcare

Who should attend this course?

This course is for health care professionals interested in the principles of developing and managing people in healthcare and /or social care.

Applicants can be working in the NHS, the private sector and social services or other health care providers.

The course can be taken as a 'stand alone' for attendance only or used towards a postgraduate qualification.

If you take this course as part of a postgraduate award a first degree or equivalent is required.

Course content

  • To have a critical awareness of the theoretical basis of developing and managing people.
  • To be able to critically discuss models and methods of communication, personal and people development and teams.
  • To critically reflect on your own performance in empowering individuals and teams.
  • To critically analyse the methods used to develop capacity, capability and performance in individuals and teams.
  • To evaluate how effective people management can enhance health and /or social care provision.

One of the most stressful aspects of work is dealing with people.

This course enables you to examine and critically evaluate your own performance in developing and supporting people in health and/or social care delivery.

The underpinning theory focuses on communication, valuing diversity, team building, performance measures, motivation, empowerment, staff development, supporting people and resolving conflict.

The course assessment helps you explore these issues in your own workplace, reflecting on your own practice.
