The subject

Psychology is the fascinating and complex scientific study of mind and behaviour, based on continuous testing and reformulating of theories. As a student, you will learn to critically evaluate and integrate various approaches.

In the First Year, you will study the foundations of cognitive psychology, historical and conceptual issues in psychology, the person in society and biological psychology.

Depending whether you are on the Major, Minor or Joint route, Second Year modules can include:

  • social psychology
  • developmental psychology
  • cognition
  • applied psychology
  • further biological psychology
  • language and mind

In the Final Year, you will choose modules based on your interests.

Careers

An understanding of psychology is relevant to many careers and you will gain skills that employers highly value.

Further study may be required to gain British Psychological Society (BPS) recognition and become a professional psychologist.

Entry grades:
220-280 UCAS points depending on subject combination - see individual subjects for details. If you are studying two GCE A levels or equivalent, we will be happy to make you an offer on an individual basis. If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL 550 (213 CBT or 79 IBT). Equivalent qualifications welcomed.
