The subject

Human biology is a study of the wonderfully complex and intriguing biological aspects of human activities.

This course will give you detailed knowledge of the biology of human beings both in health and disease, together with an introduction to studies in:

  • cell biology
  • biochemistry
  • molecular biology
  • genetics

The First Year gives you an understanding of life, including human physiology, cell biology and development and molecular biology and genetics. You will learn about human systems, cell structure and function, gene action and the principles of inheritance.

Second Year modules include pathophysiology, principles of immunology and exercise physiology. If you are taking this course as a Major, you will also study health science and bioscience research.

Final Year modules include neurophysiology and biomedical implications of exercise, as well as a research project if you are taking the course as a Major.

Careers

Graduates go into careers in:

  • teaching
  • medical genetics
  • pharmaceutical drug trial evaluation

Graduates also progres to postgraduate studies.

Qualification:
BSc/BA(Hons)

Entry grades:
220-280 UCAS points depending on subject combination - see individual subjects for details. If you are studying two GCE A levels or equivalent, we will be happy to make you an offer on an individual basis. AS/A level biology or chemistry and double subject science GCSE or equivalent. If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL 550 (213 CBT or 79 IBT). Equivalent qualifications welcomed.
