Joint Honours / Combined Honours

The subject

Students study an exciting spread of modules which reflect the discipline of English in the twenty-first century, from literary classics by Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Virginia Woolf to contemporary and popular texts including work by Ian Fleming, JK Rowling and Carol Ann Duffy.

In the First Year, you will study reading the short story and reading the novel. You may also choose to take other literature modules focusing on drama and poetry.

In the Second Year, you will choose from a selection of modules which are periodbased and intended to help you to understand and place texts in their socio-historical and cultural contexts.

In your Final Year, you will build on your own particular interests, choosing specialist modules covering a wide range of authors, genres and issues.
