Joint Honours

The subject

Economics examines the relationships that link preferences with production and consumption within the economy.

This course emphasises the role economics can play in analysing current problems and assisting with policy and decisionmaking.

You do not need any prior knowledge of economics.

Your First Year provides an introduction. Modules explore the nature and scope of economic enquiry, then cover:

  • industrial structure
  • theory of distribution
  • the market and the environment
  • the economic system domestically and internationally

The Second Year includes microeconomics theory and practice, giving you an understanding of the allocation of the world's resources in today's free markets. If you are taking economics as a Major, you will also study employability and entrepreneurship, business economics or econometrics.

Your Third Year combines issues in applied economics with specialist choices including banking, money and finance, international production and governance, issues in global economy and modern econometrics.

Careers

At the end of your studies, you will be able to move into a wide variety of roles, including:

  • general business management
  • public sector administration
  • a career as a professional economist

Entry grades:
220-280 UCAS points depending on subject combination - see individual subjects for details. If you are studying two GCE A levels or equivalent, we will be happy to make you an offer on an individual basis. If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL 550 (213 CBT or 79 IBT). Equivalent qualifications welcomed.
