Who should attend this course?
This Contemporary pain management issues course is designed for all health professionals who wish to extend and enhance their knowledge of pain physiology and their management skills of patients complaining of persistent pain within an evidence based practice framework.
The course can be taken as a ‘stand alone’ for attendance only or used towards a postgraduate qualification.
You should be a healthcare professional currently working in an appropriate area of practice.
If you wish to undertake this as part of a postgraduate award normally a degree, or equivalent, is required.
Course content
The Contemporary pain management issues course aims to enable you to understand pain physiology and the application of this knowledge in the management of patients with persistent pain using evidence-informed practice.
The course covers pain physiology from the peripheral tissues, through the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system.
Management will include the approaches developed using the biopsychosocial model, psychological approaches, with an overview of drug management, pain management programmes involving cognitive behavioural therapy, patient education, treatment of hyperventilation syndromes, maladaptive stress responses, use of manual therapy approaches and acupuncture, within an evidence-informed practice framework and how these may be utilised on an individual basis.
