The PgDip in Commercial and Workplace Mediation covers:
- The background and context of conflict including causes, academic and legal background and current developments. It introduces and builds participants’ mediation techniques and skills and includes mediation management
- The relationship between power, prejudice and culture affecting conflict and mediation
- How stereotypes and prejudices might affect Mediators’ ability to mediate
The course will also help you:
- Develop self-awareness of both strengths and areas for development as a mediator
- Lead and manage all stages of the mediation process

Entry requirements...
The normal entry requirements for the programme are:
An honours degree in any discipline from a UK institution or equivalent level qualification from an overseas institution
Applicants without an honours degree will be considered on the basis of substantial relevant work experience such as Fellows of the Institute of Legal Executives, members of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Such applicants will be interviewed and may be asked to undertake a written task to demonstrate potential to work at level 7.
English language skills are a pre-requisite for this programme. Applicants, for whom English is not their first language, will be required to have achieved IELTS 6.5 or above with no lower than a score of 6.0 in any element.
Postgraduate Certificate in Workplace Mediation: Students will only be admitted to this programme upon demonstration of satisfactory completion of training in commercial or civil mediation or relevant experience in the workplace.
The programme is subject to the University's Principles, Policies, Regulations and Procedures for the Admission of Students to Undergraduate and Taught Postgraduate Programmes and will take account of University policy and guidelines for assessing accredited prior certificated learning (APCL) and accredited prior experiential learning (APEL).

Commercial Mediation Practice
This module examines the nature of multi-party disputes and mediation processes in relation to multi-party processes and role management in that context. It offers the development of co-mediation skills together with a range of approaches to dispute settlement.

Commercial Mediation Skills
This module will consider the nature of conflict and practical appraoches to mediated dispute resolution. The different models will be examined as will the ethical issues underpinning the mediation process. The module will introduce students to the practical skills required for a successful outcome to the resolution of the dispute.

Workplace Mediation Practice
This module examines the role of mediation in the workplace both from the individual and organisation perspectives. It aims to provide participants with the relevant mediation skills to resolve challenging human resource and employment related disputes.
