CMI Certificate Coaching Skills

Day 1 and 2

At the end of Day 2 candidates will:

  • Understand what coaching is and how it differs from mentoring
  • Know how coaching can support and motivate individuals & teams
  • Develop an appreciation of the role and benefits of coaching & mentoring
  • Discover how to use two successful coaching models
  • Learn how coaching skills and techniques can enhance performance
  • Use some advanced questioning skills & deliver effective feedback
  • Recognise where coaching is relevant and useful

Day 3 and 4

At the end of day 4 candidates will:

  • Understand the concept and purpose of management coaching and mentoring
  • Be able to determine the use of management coaching and mentoring as an HR tool
  • Understand the relationship between coaching and mentoring and organisational objectives
  • Understand the impact of coaching and mentoring programmes on organisations
  • Be able to manage change in the operation of coaching and mentoring
  • Be able to monitor and evaluate coaching and mentoring within their organisation

Day 5 and 6

At the end of day 6 candidates will:

  • Recognise the impact of learning and development styles on coaching and mentoring practice
  • Develop skills as a manager in coaching and mentoring
  • Be able to develop an ethical plan to assist coaching and mentoring in their organisation
  • Understand the tools and techniques used in coaching practice
  • Understand and develop relationships to support coaching practice
  • Be able to develop and practice coaching interventions to meet organisational needs

Aims of the course

Entry requirements...

The CMI does not specify entry requirements but the Level 5 qualifications in Management Coaching and Mentoring are designed to support managers in the development of management coaching and mentoring skills, and identifying the links between coaching, mentoring and the achievement of business goals. Students are likely to be leading teams or be aiming to do so in the future.
