Who should attend this course?

This Clinical applications of computed tomography course is designed for healthcare professionals who want to develop a more comprehensive knowledge of the clinical applications of Computed Tomography (CT). It is of particular interest to those working in CT.

The course can be taken as a ‘stand alone’ for attendance only or used towards a postgraduate qualification. You need to be a qualified radiographer and have a degree or equivalent, if you want to undertake this course as part of a postgraduate award..

Course content

The aim of this course is to explore the role of CT within the portfolio of imaging methods available and explore the application of optimal CT scan protocols and techniques within specific fields of work.

The course discusses diseases pertinent to the area for each of the anatomical areas. It explores how CT demonstrates such pathology, optimum scanning protocols and techniques that will best enhance the demonstration of the disease.

The following areas are covered:

  • Oncology
  • Paediatric
  • Neuro/ENT
  • Abdominal/bowel
  • Respiratory/cardiac/angiography
  • Emergency/trauma/musculoskeletal

You will do experiential learning in order to successfully complete this course. You are expected to analyse, discuss and evaluate your own practice, specifically relating to protocols, patient management, technique and normal and abnormal anatomical appearances. It is expected that you will assess current protocols, suggesting and justifying possible modifications.

Assessment

The module is assessed by coursework by a variety of methods such as a case study and a presentation.
