Who should attend this course?

The Assessment and management of upper quadrant neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction course is designed for physiotherapists wishing to develop their skills in the management of neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction of the cervico-thoracic spine and the upper limb.

You should be a qualified physiotherapist if you take this course as part of a postgraduate award.

A degree, or equivalent, is required.

Course content

The aim of this course is to facilitate a critical approach to neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy theory and practice from an evidence-based perspective and to apply advanced clinical reasoning skills to the assessment and treatment of upper quadrant dysfunction.

On this course you explore, debate and share your clinical experiences to illustrate issues of patient management in the following areas:

  • Anatomy, biomechanics and pathology affecting the cervico-thoracic spine and upper limb
  • The assessment and appropriate management of articular, neural and muscle dysfunction
  • Pain mechanisms including nociceptive, neurogenic, central, sympathetically maintained and affective disorders
  • The theoretical basis and practical application of clinical reasoning
  • Chronic pain management
