Applied strength and conditioning

Who should attend this course?

This Applied strength and conditioning course is suitable for physiotherapists, sports therapists, sport rehabilitators, osteopaths and other health, sport and exercise rehabilitation professionals who are interested in strength and conditioning.

You need to have a BSc degree or equivalent qualification. The course may be taken as part of an postgraduate award or as a stand-alone CPD module, with or without academic credit.

Course content

With the Applied strength and conditioning course you develop in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of strength and conditioning in order to optimise performance, and plan, implement, deliver and evaluate strength and conditioning programmes.

The course helps you develop and advance your knowledge and skills in applying the concepts of strength and conditioning for athletes and the active population.This course covers the principles of strength and conditioning in order to optimise exercise, occupation-specific and sports-specific human physical performance.

You learn how to use the following tools as part of a structured, safe and effective strength and conditioning programme: strength training, weight-training, power-lifting, plyometric training, speed and agility training, core stability training, flexibility training and cardiovascular fitness training. You also learn programme design and periodisation.

The Applied strength and conditioning test course includes prehabilitation as a tool to aid recovery from injury and as a preventative tool. You learn the role of biomechanics in the aetiology of sports injury and rehabilitation and the use of video and electromyography to record and analyse human movement in a sports and exercise environment.
