Who should attend this course?

The Advances in practice course provides a means for advanced diagnostic imaging practitioners to extend their working.

It is also suitable for those who want to keep up with recent and future developments in diagnostic imaging.

Diagnostic imaging is an area of increasing technical and procedural advancement. The scope and complexity of diagnostic imaging applications has greatly expanded in recent years.

Normally you will specialise in a particular clinical area such as MRI, CT or ultrasound in which case a clinical placement in the specialist area of diagnostic imaging is advised.

The Advances in practice course can be taken as a stand alone course or as part of a postgraduate award.

If you take this course as part of a postgraduate award you need to be a qualified health care professional and have a degree or equivalent.

Course content

The Advances in practice course assumes that your are already familiar with the key principles in your chosen area of diagnostic imaging.

It addresses a range of topic areas applicable to your area of expertise.

The Advances in practice course content changes to reflect current developments in diagnostic imaging but includes areas such as: current research evidence, new and complex imaging sequences, technical developments and manufacturer updates.

It also covers organisation and management issues relevant to your work such as site planning, purchasing/installation/contract issues, clinical effectiveness, management aspects, quality assurance testing, clinical service needs.

Where applicable, you will go on planned visits to specialist diagnostic imaging units.
