Who should attend this course?
The Advanced injury prevention and management course is designed for physiotherapists, sport therapists, osteopaths, chiropractors and sport rehabilitators with a BSc degree or equivalent.
Sport injury and health professionals can advance their knowledge and skills in the prevention and management of sports and performance related injuries.
Course content
The Advanced injury prevention and management course includes a critical review and analysis of the psychological, physiological and environmental risk factors associated with sports participation and athletic activity at different levels of participation and at different stages of life.
It reviews the aetiology and pathophysiology of key musculoskeletal injuries and selected medical conditions in the context of specific body regions, age, gender and sports/performance specific activities.
It includes relevant medical investigations and interventions pertinent to athletic injuries and selected medical conditions.
Advanced injury prevention and management also explores clinical reasoning, psychological management and selected aspects of nutritional assessment and management in workshops and tutorials.
Relevant practical skills, including the assessment and appropriate management of articular, neural, muscle injury and dysfunction as well as the psychological and nutritional aspects of client/patient assessment and management are integral to the course.
Students are encouraged to reflect critically on their own practice and are expected to actively participate in classroom discussion, debate and workshops.
