About the course

The BEd prepares you to teach a broad and balanced curriculum in schools through detailed courses in the full range of National Curriculum subjects and religious education and offers you an age-related programme chosen on application so that you will follow either a Foundation/KS1 or KS1/2 pathway.

Entry requirements

300 points to include a National Curriculum subject. If you are studying other qualifications e.g. BTEC and the CACHE diploma you will need to supplement your qualification with an A level in a National Curriculum subject.* Some BTECs e.g. ICT, PE and Science are acceptable but the 300 point requirement remains. Access to Teaching welcomed with a merit profile. Plus GCSE English, mathematics and science at grade C for entry in 2011.

Personal suitability for teaching is important and is assessed at interview. A minimum of two weeks' continuous experience in a state primary school is essential before application. Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau screening required.

*English, maths, science, history, geography, ICT, music, PE, art, Design and Technology plus RE. Whilst foreign languages e.g. French are not in the National Curriculum, we are willing to accept them as such because of the drive to include languages in primary school.

We are pleased to accept all qualifications included in the UCAS tariff points system (e.g. International Baccalaureate, key skills). More information about our entry requirements.
