Our BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree fulfils the requirements to be eligible to apply for registration as a paramedic with the Health Professions Council (HPC).
It is the first nationally to integrate full paramedic training to the Health Professions Council registration standards within a full-time degree programme.
The BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree course will give you the professional knowledge and clinical assessment skills you need to become a confident, autonomous paramedic working within the emergency environment.
We place a strong focus on the delivery of quality paramedic care within our contemporary society, taking into account rapid changes within the profession, from increasing medical technology to public awareness of healthcare issues.
Paramedic practice now spans a range of disciplines and our BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science course and covers areas including:

To give you an understanding of the contributions that all professions make to patient care, some of your studies will be with students from other healthcare professions.
Evidence-based practice and research
A sound understanding of evidence-based practice and research is a fundamental part of your training and throughout the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree, your theoretical studies will be interspersed with a series of practice placements.
These will be organised and supervised by the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust in partnership with the University.
The programme provides a good grounding for professional practice in years 2 and 3. It allows you to build on the theoretical knowledge - linking it with good patient assessment and patient care.

Throughout your BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree, practice placements will be interspersed giving you the all important valuable work experience you need on graduatation.
Placements will give you the opportunity to link theoretical knowledge you gain via lectures and seminars with your practical experiences, providing you with a complete understanding and application of patient care practices.
This strongly enhances your employability skills.
Careers
As a paramedic, you will be expected to be able to provide immediate professional assistance to patients in all sorts of scenarios.
This BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree course has been developed with several Ambulance Service NHS Trusts to give you the theoretical knowledge and practical experience to meet these expectations.
It will also give you a firm foundation for future development and the opportunity to advance your career into senior roles within the service.
Teaching methods
Year 1 - Academic
The first year is primarily based in the University with short periods spent in the practice environment.
You will be taught alongside other BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science students, in addition to some modules are undertaken with other health care students, which enhances your collective understanding of patient care processes.
Year 2 - Academic
You will attend the university weekly with clinical placements interspersed throughout.
Year 3 - Sandwich / practice
For successful BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science students, year three is a sandwich / practice year spent as a paid employee with the London Ambulance Service NHS trust.
Year 4 - Academic
Final academic year.
Your participation in this BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree incorporates the competencies required for your qualification and professional registration as a Paramedic with the Health Professions Council.
