More about the course
The “Improving Access to Psychological Therapies” (IAPT) agenda plans to establish a comprehensive network of psychological therapy centres throughout England. In these centres 30-40% of the workforce will comprise of low intensity high volume workers. These workers will be trained to a suitable level of proficiency in evidence based interventions mainly CBT based.
The training provision for low intensity workers is responsive to the IAPT national curriculum and the guidance issued by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence which emphasises cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as an intervention strategy in the management of common mental health problems. CBT enhances the process of recovery through enabling individuals to lead more fulfilling lives. It teaches clients to cope with challenging and difficult circumstances, THIS programme will enable successful students to apply CBT competently, effectively and efficiently in real life. The course is lead by an excellent team of professionals under the leadership of Dr. Soo Lee and Drs. Henck van Bilsen.
The content of this programme focuses on the practical application of CBT within the context of stepped care interventions. It will result in the successful applicant being able to function as an effective, competent and efficient change agent.

Teaching methods
Learning and teaching strategies The learning and teaching strategies employed will include: lectures, role plays, seminars, student presentations, group discussions, problem solving and individual/group tutorials. The rationale for these wide ranging strategies is rooted in the nature of the contents of the modules, and follows the principles of a learner centred approach. In keeping with the principles of a learner centred approach, the low intensity worker will have the opportunities to develop knowledge and skills within the practice area depending on the nature of the placement. The student will be able to negotiate their learning needs under the guidance of the supervisor and personal tutor. These learning needs should reflect local needs and the role expected, in accord with the learning outcomes of the programme. Further, the students will have an identified practice supervisor (preferably accredited by the BABCP) in the place of work.
