More about the course
Law
This course emphasizes the development of practical skills, which are relevant in a wide range of careers. The law courses are taught through a participative and interactive environment where you can develop interpersonal and group skills. Studying law will develop your ability to solve problems, engage in logical argument, interpret the written word and develop an understanding of social values and public affairs.
French
This subject places it’s emphasis on the contemporary spoken language and the countries in which they are spoken, allow you to develop language skills alongside other disciplines.
We offer French and Spanish at beginners, intermediate and advanced levels. If you study a language throughout your degree we will prepare you to use it for professional and social purposes in your career. You will be aware of current developments in the countries concerned and will have sufficient language competence to maintain continued contacts with these countries.
After combining your Language studies with either European Studies or English Language and Communication in year one, you will have the choice to keep the same pattern in year 2 and 3 or to make your language a minor subject (without European Studies / English Language and Communication). Please note that the language element of your studies can only represent 25% of your degree.
Studying a language throughout your degree will prepare you to use it for professional and social purposes in your career. After the second year we encourage students to study for a year in Europe including France and Spain or in Northern America including the French speaking province of Québec in Canada, Mexico, the USA, Australia etc.
Work placement
You may, subject to guidance and approval, undertake an additional study year between your second and final years by spending a year at an approved university in North America, Europe, Australia or Singapore. During this year you undertake a programme of taught modules and/or project work, which will complement your studies on the Joint Honours Programme.
If you spend this year abroad in one of the EU countries you will need to be reasonably proficient in the appropriate foreign language and it may be necessary to study the language of your chosen country during your first and second years. It may also be possible, depending on your subject combinations, to take a year out working in industry.Careers
