About the course
- This degree is for those who want to make film and television documentary, including reality shows, current affairs, news and factual programming, and factual entertainment productions.
- Students spend 75% of their time on creative practice. They are taught by industry professionals who prepare them for an innovative, fast-paced digital world of tapeless production and broadcast video.
- Students make their own documentary films using state of the art HD cameras, cool lights and FCP edit suites.
- Students learn to pitch factual ideas in public, researching and writing treatments, applying storytelling skills to a range of reality-based formats. They learn the importance of character in casting presenters and participants.
- They also consider the requirements of documentary re-enactments involving casting, production design, wardrobe and make-up.
Entry requirements
320 UCAS points, plus GCSE English Language and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications are accepted by the University of Hertfordshire.

English language requirements
All students from non-majority English speaking countries require proof of English language proficiency. The following qualifications and grades will be considered
- GCSE English language grade A-C
- IELTS 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any band)
