About the course

  • EAS will help you to develop both your English language and study skills and enable you to progress to a wide range of degree courses at the University
  • The programme is designed to give you the confidence and knowledge that you will need in order to begin to study effectively in the UK
  • EAS is equivalent to Common European Framework level B1 (Semester A entry) and B1 (Semester B Standard route)

Entry requirements

Standard route: for students wishing to progress to degree programmes with an entry point equivalent to IELTS 6.0

Semester A entry: IELTS 4.0 or equivalent

Semester B entry: IELTS 5.0 or equivalent

 

Higher route: for students wishing to progress to degree programmes with an entry point equivalent to IELTS 6.5

Semester A entry: IELTS 4.5 or equivalent

Semester B entry: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent

Standard EAS route: for students wishing to progress to degree programmes with an entry point equivalent to IELTS 6.0. If you have IELTS 4.0 or equivalent you will need to study for two Semesters (September-May or January-July)

If you have IELTS 5.0 or equivalent you will need to study for one Semester (January-May only)

+ students with IELTS 5.0 or above may also be interested in joining our Pre-sessional English programmes

In addition to the English language requirements, applicants for undergraduate programmes must normally have satisfactorily completed high school or secondary school; applicants for postgraduate programmes should hold an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK second class honours degree.

English language requirements

All students from non-majority English speaking countries require proof of English language proficiency. The following qualifications and grades will be considered

- GCSE English language grade A-C
- IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 5.5 in any band)

Other English language tests are accepted. Please contact the International Office for details.
