Who should attend this course?
The Clinical applications of magnetic resonance imaging 2 – trunk, cardiovascular and oncology course is for health care professionals working in MRI.
The Clinical applications of magnetic resonance imaging 2 – trunk, cardiovascular and oncology course can be taken as a stand alone module or as part of a postgraduate award.
If you take this course as part of a postgraduate award you need to be a qualified radiographer and have a degree or equivalent.
Course content
This Clinical applications of magnetic resonance imaging 2 – trunk, cardiovascular and oncology course covers the clinical applications of MRI to the trunk, cardiovascular system and in oncology.
These scans are an expanding area of MRI practice and are carried out by new and experienced MRI practitioners.
You apply the technical principles of MRI to meet the clinical situation, maximising scan quality and providing imaging to enable a satisfactory diagnosis.
You also cover typical disease presentations and place MRI within the broader context of other diagnostic imaging methods.
The Clinical applications of magnetic resonance imaging 2 – trunk, cardiovascular and oncology course includes scan protocols and procedures for MRI of the trunk, cardiovascular system and in oncology.
The trunk here is understood to include the thorax, breast, abdomen and pelvis but exclude the spine.
The cardiovascular system includes MR cardiac imaging and MR angiography (MRA).The use of MRI in oncology includes all pertinent areas of the body, but with emphasis on the head, neck and trunk, which provide the main applications for MR cancer imaging.
You also consider the adaptation of scan technique, where appropriate, to meet the needs of specific patient groups.
In addition you study normal and abnormal image appearances for the anatomical areas highlighted above, with discussion of relevant common pathologies.
There is also consideration of use of contrast enhancement, safety and risk-benefit, alternative imaging investigations, referral pathways, diagnostic effectiveness and image quality issues.
