Contemporary Arts Practice

Contemporary Arts Practice (CAP) brings together practitioners and researchers from across the creative spectrum including visual artists, designers, musicians, composers, sound designers and art psychotherapists.

CAP members produce exhibitions, films, performances and live events, and work on collaborative projects internationally. We work on commissions and collaborations internationally with leading funding agencies, galleries, music venues, festivals and curatorial organisations. The group meets regularly to share ideas, stimulate debate and when relevant, find areas of common interest from which to build new projects. As part of this, CAP frequently invites practitioners from its international networks who further enrich its conversations. Housed within the School of the Creative Arts, CAP benefits from the input of postgraduate students, UH Arts + Culture and members of other schools within the University. CAP’s mission is to ensure its community maintains a critical engagement with their subject and environment through exchange and collaboration.

From January 2022, CAP has been under the joint leadership of Rob Godman (Reader in Music) and Annabel Lucas (Head of UH Arts + Culture), building on the excellent work delivered by the previous lead Sam Jury (Senior Lecturer Fine Art and Co-Lead Art_Sci Research Laboratory). We will launch the full programme of events and related projects later this year.
