Extended Degree in Science

What is it and who is it for?

The Extended Degree in Science - Mathematics and the Extended Degree in Science – Physical Sciences is the initial year of a 4 or 5 year degree programme leading to the award of an Honours Degree in Physics, Astrophysics or Mathematics.

This route is suitable for students with non-standard qualifications or lower-than-expected A-level grades who want to go on to study at the University of Hertfordshire.

How does it work?

During the first year of the programme you will study at North Hertfordshire College (NHC) in Stevenage. (From 2016/17 you can also study at West Herts College (WHC) in Watford.) On successful completion, you will progress automatically on to one of our degree programmes at the University of Hertfordshire.

The NHC programme is tailored specially to the needs of students wanting to progress on to Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics degrees. So, for example, you will study an advanced mathematics module during the initial year at NHC to ensure a smooth transition on to your degree programme at the University of Hertfordshire.

How do I apply?

Please visit the Extended Degree in Science - Mathematics and the Extended Degree in Science – Physical Sciences for information on how to apply for the Extended degree.

North Hertfordshire College helped me to achieve the skills required to succeed in the extended degree program for Physics. The teachers truly do make the difference here. They're competent, easy to listen to, and have an understanding and passion in what they study. It's easy to tell that they care about getting to know their students and helping them learn.
