The School of Pharmacy held an official launch for the new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer.
January 2012
Appointment of Doctor Robert Chilcott and two postgraduate fellows. Dr Chilcott will head up school research toxicology in the Schools Centre for Topical Drug Delivery and Toxicology.

Dr Paul Robinson, Medical Director at Merck, Sharp & Dohme, was awarded an Honoury Doctorate in Science for his contribution to the development of pharmaceutical research in the UK, and for his continued support to the University’s School of Pharmacy.

An Alumni event was held in the School of Pharmacy for the second cohort of pharmacy graduates.

The first School of Pharmacy Biennial Review was published.

Approval of Research Centre for Clinical Practice, Medicines Safety and Drug Misuse. The School of Pharmacy has worked closely with the local pharmacy community to establish the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Local Practice Forum under the leadership of Dr Zoe Aslanpour, Head of Practice and Public Health and Mr Graham Philips, Visiting Fellow.

Professor Fabrizio Schifano is appointed to the Home Officer Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.
The School of Pharmacy is the first UK school to develop and run its own community Pharmacy for staff and students. Campus Pharmacy was officially opened by the University's new Vice-Chancellor Professor Quintin McKellar.

Professor Brown is appointed to the Wellcome Trust Technology Transfer Challenge Committee.

On 22 July the School of Pharmacy celebrated the admission of their first graduates to the pharmaceutical register of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Head of School Professor Soraya Dhillon MBE hosted a celebratory event for the graduates which was attended by eighty guests including the Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Wilson, Professor Nick Barber, Vice President, RPSGB, Bob Nicholls CBE, Chairman of the General Pharmaceutical Council members of the Board of Governors and University Court and Pharmacy stakeholders.

The University of Hertfordshire hosted the Analyst Competition for the fifteenth year sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Students from schools in the East Anglia region spend a day in the chemistry labs completing a number of analyses.
The 16th UKICRS Symposium on ‘Controlled Release in Drug Delivery: Right Time, Right Place’ was held at Fielder Conference Centre on 14th April 2010. Dr Woei Ping Cheng, Senior Lecturer of Pharmaceutics was one of the organising committee. The Symposium was a success with 90 delegates from Schools of Pharmacy in the UK and Ireland and the pharmaceutical industry.

The first cohort of MPharm students had their graduation ceremony at St Albans Cathedral.

Professor Marc Brown was acknowledged by the Royal Society of Chemistry for his work with the treatment of skin diseases such as skin cancer, acne and fungal infections and was awarded a fellowship.

The University of Hertfordshire has been awarded full Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain accreditation. The accreditation, which has been awarded for the maximum period of five years, was given as a result of the School's excellent facilities, strong student engagement, its breadth and depth of science and practice, its integrated curriculum and its strong leadership and excellent staffing.
The School of Pharmacy delivered a Summer School on patient safety in conjunction with academics at the Università degli Studi di Padova. 18 students from UH joined colleagues from the University of Madrid and the University of Padova.
Professor Andrew J. Hutt from the University of Hertfordshire, was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain for Distinction in the Science of Pharmacy.

Professor Jayne Lawrence, Chief Scientific Advisor to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, officially opens the new pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutics laboratories.

Step 7 approval of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain accreditation process is granted.

The first international student links are set up with the establishment of ERASMUS agreements with Italy and Spain.

Professor Dhillon received the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain Charter Gold Medal which recognises Professor Dhillon’s involvement, amongst other things, in establishing collaborative links with universities and institutions across Europe and India.

Step 6 approval of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain accreditation process is granted.
Professor Dhillon became a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. The Society's Panel of Fellows is empowered to confer fellowship on members of not less than 12 years' standing who have made an outstanding original contribution to the advancement of pharmaceutical knowledge or have attained distinction in the science, practice, profession or history of pharmacy.

Dr Keith Ridge, Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Department of Health officially opens the new simulated pharmacy at the University of Hertfordshire.

The 7th International Conference on Life Long Learning in Pharmacy is hosted at the University of Hertfordshire. The conference focuses on ‘Climate Changes in Learning’.

The School of Pharmacy moves into the Centre for Health Related Research, a new University building which will facilitate research and provide training for healthcare professionals, including a simulated pharmacy.

Step 4 approval of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain accreditation process is granted.

Mr. Hemant Patel, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain was guest of honour at the launch of the new School of Pharmacy. The launch attracted approximately 200 guests from the University, pharmacy practice and local organisations.

The new school recruits its first intake of 54 students to the MPharm degree programme. Staff within the school includes Professional Leads for the professional practice of pharmacy, pharmaceutics, pharmacology and physiology, pharmaceutical chemistry and bio sciences and Teacher Practitioners from Hospitals and Community Pharmacy.

Dr Jim Smith - Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, Department of Health attends the first School of Pharmacy stakeholder event. Validation of the MPharm degree by the University of Hertfordshire.

Step 2 approval of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain accreditation process is granted. The School of Pharmacy eight-year business plan is approved by the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

Dr Richard O’Neill is appointed as Associate Head of the School of Pharmacy. Dr O’Neill’s areas of expertise include the practice of pharmacy, medicines regulation, and pharmacy and healthcare law and ethics.

Professor Soraya Dhillon is appointed as the Foundation Professor of Pharmacy, and Head of the new School of Pharmacy. Professor Dhillon studied Pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy, University of London, and gained her PhD in Clinical Pharmacology at the Institute of Neurology, University of London.
