Indoor air quality testing
Our services provide a cost-efficient method of addressing problems that are caused by workplace pollutants. Our Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) investigations services include:
Building hygiene surveys
Poor building hygiene often leads to a condition commonly known as Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). Symptoms of SBS include regular illness or malaise, constant tiredness, skin complaints and perceptions of poor air quality.
At Biodet we have been investigating and providing solutions for SBS for over 20 years in countless different work environments.
We use IAQ tests to analyse and determine the standard of a building’s hygiene. Our tests include microbiological surveys, particle counts of conditioned-air, duct swabs and surveys of air handling plant.
Staff comfort surveys
Staff discomfort, which can be caused by poor air quality is a leading cause of complaint to facilities managers. Problems with air conditioning and air-movement, poor ventilation and low humidity can all be contributory causes.
Biodet can carry out the relevant IAQ tests in all occupied areas of a workplace and make recommendations on how improvements can be implemented.
We understand the air quality concerns in office buildings and areas where there are densely packed desks such as financial trading floors, where there are often heat-gains well beyond heating and ventilation design considerations.
Duct cleanliness
Poorly maintained air distribution ducts can deliver conditioned air of impaired quality. Monitoring of supplied air can identify which parts of an air distribution system have internal microbiological spoilage or elevated levels of dust and debris.
By measuring the air directly from the supply grilles a quantification of the ductwork cleanliness can be made.
Routine air quality monitoring
Regular audits of IAQ provide confidence in the workplace and can reassure staff who may have concerns. Problems with air quality can be identified and remedied before symptoms of poor air quality become apparent in the health of workers.
An efficient, non-disruptive air quality investigation can therefore be used either as an emergency call-out, or part of a regular auditing
What our clients say
"We have been using Biodet for air quality testing, building hygiene and staff comfort issues in our multi-storey office building since 2002. At the end of their last audit further investigations were requested following tenants’ concerns about the air quality in the building. We contacted Biodet who responded promptly and gave us advice on the key areas to address in the short term, following up with a site visit to carry out the air quality tests. The member of staff who attended had a detailed knowledge and considerable experience of both key subject matters of environmental conditions and operation of mechanical ventilations. A professional report was sent to us around 10 days later which included data on levels of contamination and recommendations to improve air quality throughout the building. Our experience of using Biodet has been very positive – their knowledge and expertise inspire confidence in clients and we are always assured of an excellent service".
