Eva Smit
Bachelor of Law (LLB)
The University of Hertfordshire provides a challenging, intellectually stimulating and socially enjoyable environment.
Not only does the University offer a well-structured course with a variety of optional modules to satisfy all expectations, it also provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
For instance, during my studies, I participated in debating and had the opportunity to attend a mock trial at the Court of Chancery in London.
I regularly attended public lectures and seminars organised by the Student Law Society, which presented me with an excellent chance to speak to professionals from different legal backgrounds, thereby helping me to make an informed career choice.
I was also able to attend dinners and other events organised by the Hertfordshire and West London Law Societies, so working hard on the course and networking at various social events enabled me to secure several work experience placements, including a Barristers mini-pupillage and a vacation placement.
I also worked as a legal assistant and had the opportunity to shadow a County Court Judge. Studying at the University of Hertfordshire was an invaluable experience which opened many doors.
Having achieved a First Class degree, I am now undertaking a postgraduate course in International Relations at the University of Cambridge, after which I intend to complete the LPC in order to accomplish my aspiration of becoming a commercial solicitor.
The time at our alma mater is what we make of it and the students of the University of Hertfordshire enjoy all the support and encouragement to make the most of it.
