Why study Philosophy?

Studying Philosophy

Studying Philosophy at the University of Hertfordshire means learning from exceptional teachers who love sharing their knowledge, skill and passion with students.

They are all active researchers, able to teach you how to create, write and present original, challenging, rigorous Philosophy because they do it themselves every day.

Our teaching is rated 'excellent;, scoring 24 out of 24 in the latest Quality Assurance Agency Review, and our research topics include the Philosophy of education.

This makes us one of the few Philosophy departments in the UK where staff bring their full philosophical skills to bear on teaching Philosophy to students.

We're here to teach you to really do Philosophy for yourself.

You'll learn through formal courses and extracurricular seminars, as well as having plenty of opportunity to discuss and debate critical issues with staff and fellow students.

Every year, we also hold an optional residential weekend at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park.
