English Language and Communication
Welcome to English Language and Communication at the University of Hertfordshire.
We are a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive team and we hope you would like to study with us.
At the University of Hertfordshire we offer a unique mix of modules, focusing on:
- the English language itself
- its sounds, words and structure
- how it has developed
- how it's used to communicate
- how it's learned by children
- when it goes wrong
- and how we can teach it as a foreign language.
You can study these as part of a single or combined undergraduate degree.
Our teaching team
Our academics are actively engaged in research in their specialist areas and regularly present at national and international conferences.
We have hosted a wide range of events including:
- Institute of Acoustics Workshop
- Child Language Seminar
- Relevance Theory Workshop
- Linguistics Association of Great Britain
- second international conference of Critical Approaches to Discourse Analysis Across Disciplines (CADAAD)
Throughout your studies, you'll receive academic and personal support through seminars and one-to-one tutorials.
You will also attend research seminars to explore different areas of academic interest.
