Extended degrees

Students sitting on the grass

If you want to study for a degree but don’t have the right qualifications (A levels, BTEC Diplomas or equivalent) or your grades aren’t as good as you hoped, an Extended degree could be just what you’re looking for.

You’ll spend an initial year at one of our colleges studying modules relevant to your planned degree and gaining skills such as:

  • communications
  • IT
  • literacy
  • numeracy

When you pass your initial year, you will continue on a degree course at the University of Hertfordshire.

You can study a variety of Honours degrees as well as subjects within the Joint Honours programme (where you can choose more than one subject).

There’s a great range of degrees to choose from, including:

  • aerospace and automotive engineering
  • business biology (including biochemistry, biotechnology, human physiology, microbiology, molecular biology and pharmacology)
  • electrical and electronic engineering
  • environmental management
  • geography
  • maths
  • pharmaceutical science
  • psychology
  • physics and astrophysics
  • sports studies

Extended degree students often graduate with excellent degrees, leading to successful careers or postgraduate study.
