About the School of Engineering and Technology

With our progressive approach, excellent facilities and career-relevant programmes, the School of Engineering and Technology has an international reputation for attracting students and developing talented graduates who are highly sought after by employers.
There are currently around 1,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School of Engineering and Technology which is based at the College Lane campus.
Our courses
Our courses are designed and continually updated in consultation with industry and the professional bodies. All our UG and taught PG programmes are accredited by one or more of the IET, IMechE and RAeS. As a result, our students develop technical competence and employability skills.
Our three Industry Advisory Groups (IAG) draw their membership from regional and national companies and include:
- Aerospace
- Automotive & Mechanical
- Electronic Communications Technology
They meet on an annual basis, assisting the School with its strategic direction, influencing curriculum, advising on career opportunities and sponsorship of prizes and scholarships.
This culminates in the School’s annual prize-giving-day when all three IAGs come together with student prize winners to celebrate their achievement. The IET also awards ICTTech and EngTech certificates to sandwich placement students at this event.
Placements
Work placement is available in the year before graduation. This gives our programmes the strong commercial bias that employers seek and value.
We actively promote placement opportunities for our all students and help you identify, plan and secure your preferred placement as part of your sandwich award.
Your placement experience is further rewarded by IET through certification at EngTech or ICTTech (or both) level, placing you firmly on a professional career path.
