We have a reputation for working in innovative and effective ways with government agencies in the UK and overseas, and are committed to capacity building and training the trainers.

The School has experience of working with colleagues:

  • at the University of Hertfordshire
  • across the UK
  • internationally

We can offer a wide range of expertise, knowledge and experience of supporting students and colleagues for whom English is an additional language.

Our experience and understanding of the importance of cultural contexts is particularly relevant in underpinning our expertise.

Our projects:

The Egyptian Mission Project

The School of Education participated in the Egypt Missions Project for two years, from 2008 to 2010. The project was aimed at classroom teachers and middle managers of schools in Egypt to enable them to build their capacity for improvement.

Students undertook a full University of Hertfordshire MA in Education which focused on:

  • teachers' subject knowledge
  • teaching and learning approaches
  • theories of learning
  • leading and managing change

The programme was designed to take into consideration the needs of the local Egyptian market and the transferability of ideas and strategies.

BEd Malaysia

In 2005 the School of Education began working with the Ministry of Education in Malaysia to develop an undergraduate route for primary school teaching.

Working collaboratively with colleagues from the Ministry and two teacher training colleges (later institutes) we co-wrote a Bachelor of Education (hons) Mathematics programme to train primary school specialist maths teachers with English and PE as their subsidiary subjects.

120 students enrolled on the programme and 120 students graduated in May 2010.

Read our report on 'Learning together through international collaboration in teacher education in Malaysia'.

The report also documents our collaborative approach to working together and to learning and teaching, including the Action - Reflection - Modelling (ARM) pedagogical approach, which underpinned the degree programme.

International Student achievements

At the school he has continued to reflect on learning and teaching and shares his ideas in his award winning blog: 'Life Through my Eyes', which has now also been published as a book in Malaysia.
