School of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics Alumni

An observatory

Excellence in research and teaching from leading scientists and mathematicians.

About the school

Even though Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics weren’t always grouped within the same School, they were all some of the earlier topics taught, with Mathematics being available to students from 1967.

As Physics was one of the strongest areas of research in the early 1970s, an Astronomy Unit was formed as part of a wider syllabus.

The School today is in a range of diverse research activities, and contains one of the largest astronomy research centres in the UK.

The industry-accredited degree courses within excellent learning environments provide students with the ability to gain more from their studies, developing themselves through real life situations to prepare them for the real world from teaching to research.
