University Welcomes Students With A Record Breaking Handshake
Hundreds attend world record attempt on Fresher's Fun Day
A "warm welcome" to new students
On Thursday 27 September the University attempted a Guinness World Record for the longest handshake chain to welcome new students in its sixtieth Anniversary year. The event took place in conjunction with the Fresher's Fun Day, which offered new students the opportunity to socialise with fellow freshers.
Over 1,200 staff, students and local residents came together to form a long chain of people shaking hands breaking a European and UK record for the longest handshake chain. The event was organised by Andrew Francis, Business School who said: "It is unfortunate that we did not break the world record but we want to thank everyone who came along to support this attempt. This was not just about breaking a record, it's also about extending a warm welcome to our new students in our sixtieth year."
