Santander Joins The University For Lunch And Thanks
Relationship with Santander Universities UK continues to grow
In December 2011 the University became a member of the Santander Universities Network. As part of this, Santander are providing £40,000 a year over three years to support a range of staff and student activities across campus, including research, student formula racing, Study Abroad scholarships and entrepreneurial activities.
To celebrate the University’s relationship with Santander, a lunch was hosted on 20 March by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Quintin McKellar, to thank them for their on-going support. Luis Juste, Director of Santander Universities UK, attended the event with some of his staff who were introduced to students who have been the beneficiaries of their funding.
The University’s Formula Student Team also showed a short film highlighting the success of student formula at the University – we are currently ranked 24th in the world out of over 500 teams. Student Bianca Bragg, who plays for Arsenal Ladies’ Football team, is one of the recipients of a scholarship funded by Santander Universities UK. "The Santander funding will inspire me to achieve more. Somebody has given me a chance to continue with my education and my sport which is a dream I am now moving closer to."
In 2014, the University is also be looking forward to opening a Santander branch on the College Lane Campus, as part of the new ‘Hutton Hub’, and will be on site to offer students and staff banking facilities and advice.
