Estates 2020 Vision Update De Havilland Campus

3 June 2013

The new mezzanine floor

New development on de Havilland creates a fantastic new space for students, staff and visitors

Over the summer, the University’s Estates team has been working hard to give students and staff something to be excited about in the new academic year.

As proposed in the University of Hertfordshire’s 2020 Estates Vision, the revamp of the de Havilland campus is complete.

Among the smaller changes to the campus is the major redevelopment of the Weston Atrium. This is the largest space on campus and a central teaching area in de Havilland.

Due to the number of students that frequent the halls of the atrium, the estates team introduced a new mezzanine level on the first floor as a ‘study deck’ for informal learning to continue even as events are happening on the ground floor.

In response to a request by the Students’ Union, the estates team also inserted a space and ‘shop front’ in the Atrium for the UHSU. Students are now able to go there with any questions they have and to collect their NUS cards.

The foyer of the Weston Auditorium also underwent a few changes in aesthetics and lighting, making the space slightly more flexible and properly utilized.

If you would like to arrange visit in the future to see the new space, just let us know.
