Cookie And Cake Sales Helps Alumna To Volunteer Abroad
Kelly Roos raises £800 for Voluntary Service Overseas
Teaching has always been the career path that alumna Kelly Roos wanted to follow. At sixteen, she gained experience working with small children, and while studying at the University she managed to work as a carer for children with special needs.
In 2009, Kelly successfully graduated with a BEd(Hons) Primary Education and began teaching in St Albans. However, this year volunteering abroad became her new action plan.
The International Citizen Service is a government-supported initiative designed to send 18-25 year olds to Africa and Asia to help fight poverty.
Kelly said ‘I had to fundraise £800 for Voluntary Service Overseas before I go, to show my commitment. I did various cake sales, including at a family member's office, a local school, the Forum and the alumni office!’
‘I hope to continue teaching when I am back, maybe teach abroad.’
After successfully reaching her target, Kelly Roos confirmed that she will be travelling to Ethiopia for three months to volunteer on the project.
