76 Hours Of Fame For Crush Radio And Comic Insomnia

4 June 2013

The Comic Insomnia team

Radio show attempts to beat the World Record for Comic Relief

Inspired by Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave’s Longest Ever radio show in 2011, a group of students from Crush Radio attempted to beat the World Record for the Longest Ever team radio show and raised over £2,000 for Comic Relief in the process.

The World Record is currently held by Germany’s KISS radio station, having broadcast for 73 hours. The Crush Radio student team, ‘Comic Insomnia’, comprising of Seb Scott (Presenter), Kieran Ward (Presenter), Gage Holding (Assistant Producer) and Chris Thompson (Head Producer), alongside many student volunteers who kindly gave up their time to participate, beat this with a 76 hour show. Whilst Guinness World Records is unable to validate the record as official, the team massively exceeded their sponsorship target with their immense achievement.

The show took place between 3pm on Thursday 14th March until 7pm on Sunday 17th March and raised a total of £2,031.39, with additional support from the ‘Raise and Give’ (RAG) team through fundraising during student nights out, collections in the EleHouse and supporting the team.

Seb explained: ‘It was a very proud moment for myself and everyone involved with the event, which was a lot of fun overall and a great success. Some of the hardest moments were in the very early mornings (3AM - 6AM) but otherwise the days flew by and when either myself or Kieran were struggling we would both be encouraging each other to keep going.’

Kieran added: ‘We managed to exceed out donation target of £2,000 for Comic Relief and everyone that was involved feels like they have achieved something special here at Crush Radio. I personally feel that I've done Crush Radio, the University and Students’ Union and also myself proud.’

Whilst Crush radio are not Guinness World Record holders the show raised a fantastic amount of money for charity. We are certainly very proud of them!
