The students and their fundraising cheque

Three Hertfordshire students cycle to the South of France for charity

In the aid of Cancer Research UK, 3 students worked extremely hard to plan, research and execute their challenge to cycle 1000 miles from the University of Hertfordshire to St Tropez in September 2012.

Undergraduate students Ben Harwood (Business with Psychology), Jack Carpenter (Computing with Business) and Tom Porter (Environmental Management) managed to cover the distance in 10 days, despite some mishaps along the way.

Ben Harwood explains: 'We felt supported throughout and knew where to come for advice, creativity and support. The ride itself could have gone with fewer hitches as we had 2 crashes and a broken bike, but we were resourceful enough to fix the bikes (and bodies) and arrive in St Tropez on schedule!'

'It was an amazing experience', Ben continues, 'which required absolute teamwork to complete. We really hope all the hard work will make a difference to people’s lives. We will remember it for the rest of ours.'

With the support of various sponsors to purchase essential equipment at discounted prices and funding from different sources, the students raised a total of £8,000 for the charity. Of this, the University contributed £1,000 towards essential equipment.
