Subject conferences

Subject conferences offer schools and colleges the opportunity to bring students onto campus to experience university life for a day.

Students will have a choice of mini lectures to choose from where they can explore courses they are already interested in and also sample something they may not have previously considered.

Subject specific talks

These talks provide an insight into careers which certain subjects can lead to, and what it is like to study that subject.

Topics on offer include:

  • Engineering
  • Astronomy/Physics
  • Sports Science
  • Psychology
  • Nursing, Social Work and Midwifery
  • Healthcare Professions
  • Law
  • Humanities

Timing: Upon request, approximately 1 hour

Max no. of students: Unlimited

Location: Delivered in school/college

STEM careers talk

This STEM careers talk will help enthuse students about the benefits of choosing a career in the STEM subjects. Using a range of resources, including video clips of role models, guidance will be given to challenge current myths and misconceptions about STEM careers. The talk can be adapted for all age groups and time frames.

If requested students can also be guided through the use of FutureMorph, the Science Council-led STEM careers website aimed at young people from age 11-19. Computers with an ability to run FutureMorph are required.

Year group: 9/13

Timing: 1 hour talk; 2 hours to include computer session

Max no. of students: Unlimited, maximum 20 for the computer session

Cost: Free

Location: Delivered in school/college
