Outreach events

In addition to the Widening Participation Schools talks and workshops at your school, we hold a number of events at the University each year.

We will be sending out more details of these opportunities closer to the time but please look out for the following events:

Uni Support (March)

For Year 10 and Year 11 pupils with a disability or a specific learning difficulty (SpLD) who also have the academic ability to apply for a university place in the future. While some pupils with a disability or a SpLD might feel that university is attainable for them, others might feel deterred from applying.

Whichever the case, we’d like to meet them to have the opportunity to show how they can be supported, give them a taste of university life, as well as the opportunity to meet with present University of Hertfordshire students who have a disability or a SpLD, who will share their experiences and coping strategies with them.

Teachers’ information conference (Spring)

Updates school sixth form staff on the changes to the student finance system and advises on effective strategies for writing UCAS form references, guiding students through their personal statements and how to complete apprenticeship applications.

Herts and Minds (Easter break)

Opportunity for Year 11 students to develop their critical thinking skills through a three-day visit to the University campus in which they will engage in research and debate. Many of these students will be those who attended Summer Schools in the last academic year so this will be an opportunity to develop their existing knowledge of university.

Summer Schools (July)

Opportunity for young people to get a taste of what university is really like and challenge their misconceptions. School students will get the chance to spend a night in the University Halls of Residence and attend lectures to demonstrate the wide range of subjects that university has to offer.

This year, the University will be offering Summer Schools to Years 10 and 12 as well as a group of young people who have grown up in the care system. If you are aware of students at your school who are within the care system, please contact Lindsey Rigby to request an application pack for this Summer School.

Further details of the Year 10 and Year 12 events will be sent out closer to the time. Places on the Summer Schools will be limited so please ensure that all applications are submitted by the deadlines.
